Commercial Illustration & Image Licensing by Dr Lindsay Marshall
The thing that lights me on fire is capturing entire groups of species — completely, and with precision. I love expressing the subtle anatomical differences that define a genus, a family, a lineage. It’s what I’m known for, and what I care most deeply about
Commercial Illustration & Image Licensing
I provide high-quality, biologically accurate illustrations for commercial use, including book publishing, packaging, signage, education, media, and conservation. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I license an existing image instead of commissioning new work?
Yes – many images are available for licensing, which can save time and cost. I’ll confirm if a suitable match exists based on your needs.
What usage rights are included in the licence?
Each licence includes a specific usage type, territory, and duration. These are agreed in advance and form part of a written licence agreement.
Do you offer exclusive licences?
Yes – exclusivity is occasionally available for an additional fee depending on the illustration and the licensing requirement. This ensures the image is not licensed to other clients during the agreed period.
How much does a commercial illustration cost?
Fees vary depending on the type of work, work involved, and usage parameters. Please provide as much detail as possible to receive an accurate quote.
How long does a new illustration take?
Turnaround time depends on the complexity of the illustration, the number of species, and my current workload. I’ll provide a clear timeline once the brief is confirmed, and I’ll always do my best to accommodate your schedule.
However, it's greatly appreciated when clients can allow adequate time for illustration work in their project planning. Building in this time results in better outcomes and ensures the work is delivered without unnecessary pressure on either side.
Urgent projects may be possible for a rush fee, subject to availability.
